The UAB’s Communication and Education Office launches its new range of International Specialisation Courses featuring academic journeys to Egypt, Brussels and Barcelona

The Communication and Education Office  of the Autonomous Univeristy of Barcelona (UAB) is launching a series of thematic expeditions and academic journeys designed to complement the curricula of its Master's programmes. These International Specialisation Courses, offered as complementary programmes, provide immersive, professionally oriented academic experiences combining theoretical training with fieldwork alongside UAB lecturers and leading experts.

  • “Egypt Expedition: In the Footsteps of Herodotus”
  • “Barcelona: Educommunication 360” (Spanish and English)
  • “Barcelona–Brussels: Political Communication in an AI-Driven World”

The “Egypt Expedition: In the Footsteps of Herodotus. Travel, Journalism and Perspective”, offered within the framework of the Master’s Degree in Travel Journalism (Spanish) — available in both its on-campus and online formats — will give students the opportunity to learn how to observe, investigate and understand others, conduct interviews, gather testimonies and, ultimately, tell the story of the world from an open, rigorous and engaged journalistic perspective, with a particular focus on understanding Egyptian culture.

Egypt, the land of the pharaohs and, to a considerable extent, a cradle of Western civilisation, has been selected for its extraordinary historical, archaeological and narrative richness. Across this vast setting, past and present have been in continuous dialogue for some 5,000 years. The Herodotus Expedition to Egypt will travel along the Nile, between Luxor and Aswan, aboard a cruise ship that will become a classroom in motion. The columns of the Karnak Temple complex, the tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Aswan’s spice market will become spaces for fieldwork, observation and reflection.

The “Political Communication in an AI-Driven World. Trends, Projects, Tools and Cases” expedition, organised as part of the Master’s Degree in Political and Electoral Communication Management (Spanish), will take participants to two of Europe’s leading centres of political communication: Barcelona and Brussels.

The programme will feature lectures, seminars and workshops led by UAB faculty members and leading professionals in the field, together with visits to institutions, organisations and entities connected with politics, leadership and institutional communication, including the European Parliament in Brussels and the Parliament of Catalonia (Parlament de Catalunya) in Barcelona, among many others.

The journey will also include dedicated sessions for participants to present their own projects, fostering the exchange of experiences, the development of international networks and collaborative learning among students from different countries.

The “Educommunication 360. Projects, Tools and Debates in an AI-Driven World” expedition, offered as a complement to the Master’s Degree in Communication and Education — available in both Spanish and English — presents an on-campus academic experience designed to offer participants an inside perspective on some of Barcelona’s most prominent projects, institutions and spaces for innovation.

Over five days, students will take part in lectures and workshops led by UAB faculty members and researchers, while also visiting museums, research centres, artificial intelligence laboratories, media organisations, television broadcasters, cultural institutions and innovative projects that are helping to transform society.

They will also have the opportunity to present their own projects, exchange experiences with fellow students and lecturers from different countries, and expand their international professional networks.

These three complementary journeys have been conceived to turn knowledge into experience and learning into an unforgettable journey. Upon completion of the programmes, participants will receive official recognition certifying their completion of a UAB International Specialisation Course, strengthening both their academic credentials and professional profile.

This is not a course open to the general public. It is an opportunity reserved for members of our academic community — an experience designed to enrich their education, broaden their international perspective and experience the UAB from within.

The Communication and Education Office is a consolidated research group specialising in scientific research and dissemination within the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Recognised by AGAUR (Agency for Management of University and Research Grants of the Government of Catalonia) as a Consolidated Research Group in recognition of its trajectory, impact and development, it carries out research projects at the intersection of communication and education. Since its foundation, the Gabinete has promoted numerous initiatives aimed at integrating communication technologies into the so-called global or knowledge society in a conscious, critical and responsible way. Under the direction of Santiago Tejedor, the Gabinete organises several UAB continuing education master's programmes, including the Master's Degree in Travel Journalism (on-campus and online), the Master's Degree in Communication and Education, the Master's Degree in Environmental Communication, and the Master's Degree in Political and Electoral Communication Management. The group has produced an extensive and continually expanding body of scientific publications, including journal articlesbooks, book chapters and other research outputs. It also hosts an innovation laboratory dedicated to educational projects, knowledge transfer and the development of new communication formats through creativity and multidisciplinary collaboration. Every year, the Office organises an international academic expedition bringing together students from different universities and disciplines through the Tahina-Can Expedition, recognised as Spain's best educational project. In addition, it develops educational initiatives such as the Tu Aventura portal, the InfoEDU educational platform and the science and newsgames project Reporteros de la Ciencia.
