It starts the ‘MILID Summer School 2025’

The Communication and Education Office at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, together with the Arab Academy for Science Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), UNESCO UNITWIN MILID Network, and the MIL Institute, is organizing a new edition of the MILID Summer School 2025.
The course, which will take place from July 4 to 16, 2025 at the UAB campus, will bring together a group of international students and experts in education, communication, and journalism to reflect on the major global challenges of our time.
In a world marked by polarization, armed conflicts, and the ethical challenges of technology, the program poses an urgent question: How can media and digital technology actively contribute to peace and global understanding?
Under the theme “MILID & Global Understanding”, the course will focus on the power of media, digital literacy, and artificial intelligence to build a more just, inclusive, and peaceful world.
The agenda will combine academic sessions, hands-on workshops, and institutional visits structured around three major areas:
- Communication and Journalism: featuring lectures on investigative journalism, science and gender, digital narratives, social media, and influencers, along with creative workshops on social impact communication campaigns.
- Artificial Intelligence: aimed at all profiles, this section covers the fundamentals of AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics, with an ethical and human rights-centered approach.
- Law and Digital Society: offering an overview of the European legal framework on human rights, competition, international trade, immigration, and insolvency in a rapidly evolving technological context.
Among the highlights of this edition are the launch of the MILID Young Ambassadors initiative, which will connect young people from different countries committed to the values of media and information literacy, and the presentation of the MILID Global Action Plan, an international roadmap to promote collaboration in research, digital ethics, and human rights.
The official inauguration will take place on Friday, July 4 at 10:30 a.m. in the Faculty’s Aula Magna and will feature the session "MILID in the New Media Ecosystem" led by María José Recoder, Alexander Le Voci, and the course directors José Manuel Pérez Tornero and Samy Tayie.
With over 15 years of history, the MILID Summer School continues to establish itself as a space for learning, intercultural dialogue, and the training of leaders committed to social transformation. This new edition also builds on the work carried out during the Second International Conference “MILID & Global Understanding”, held in April 2025 at the Hotel Campus UAB, which aimed to strengthen global strategies against disinformation and hate speech in the digital age.
